Protein lysine acetylation was one of the most important and ubiquitous PTMs, which was involved in a variety of cellular processes such as transcription regulation and cellular metabolism. Histone acetyltransferase and deacetylases carry out this reversible modification while acetyl-coenzyme A is the acetyl group donor.
