Protein lysine acetylation was one of the most important and ubiquitous PTMs, which was involved in a variety of cellular processes such as transcription regulation and cellular metabolism. Histone acetyltransferase and deacetylases carry out this reversible modification while acetyl-coenzyme A is the acetyl group donor. Previously, lysine acetylation was firstly discovered on histones, which were considered as a key component of the "histone code".
